I finally called the woman who cuts my hair. She asked who had been cutting my hair since the last time I’d seen her and was (justifiably) horrified when I told her that she was actually the last person who had cut my hair. Its been over a year. Brenda is a lovely woman who has tried hard to remind me that I need to start putting myself on my own priority list and little things like getting my hair done regularly will make me feel better about myself and better about the things I can do. Clearly, I have been somewhat slow on the uptake with that lesson.

In any case, she cut my hair. A little different than the last time, but the same general idea. She likes to keep it long-ish and fun. We also discussed hair color because I’m getting some grays and am teetering on (or over) the edge of “I can still get away with this and no one notices.” So I got it colored, too. But it is a semi-permanent color because I have been deemed completely not ready to make a commitment to take care of permanent color.

It is certainly darker than what I thought it was going to be… when I saw the little swatch on the sheet, it looked more strawberry than brown. But I still like it. And hopefully, I’ll manage to make it back in the beginning of November to get it trimmed and recolored.

And this is where the photos would be, right? And there are some, but as you can see… they aren’t really all that helpful. The first was one I took myself, and there was actually a better one, but this one made me laugh. That face I’m making is some sort of conditioned response to getting my picture taken. There are far too many photos with my face looking like that. It does showcase the new cut, complete with fancy ‘do done by Brenda. It no longer looks like that. The second photo is one that Katie took. If you squint and use your imagination, you can sort of see what color my hair is now.

But not really.

This year, we sent the incubator into school with Katie’s class the week before Spring Break. All the first grade classes got to come in and see them, check out what it looked like when an egg was candled. They were very excited.

The eggs hatched the weekend before school started again, and I’ve been transported them back to school every morning this week and picked them up in the afternoon to take them home. The kids have been so thrilled to see baby chicks in their classroom!

We currently have 8 chicks, including “Sunday Dinner” who was named by my brother Joey. Joey got the naming privilege because Sunday Dinner was born on his birthday. The girls then named another chick “Bob” after Joey, too.

Finally, we had a nice day, and she asked for candy seconds after I suggested we do the pictures and she refused again. I promised her the candy after we took the pictures. That was all it took. I didn’t have long, and I didn’t get many of the more portrait-y pictures I’d like to have, but what I do have is all Katie. And that girl has personality in spades.

Once we got back into the house, she wanted to see the pictures. Then she wanted to see the older pictures. She loved seeing how the shirt is getting shorter on her even though it still doesn’t fit. She wondered how old she would be when the shirt does fit, and if it will ever be too small. She wanted to see Maggie’s pictures to compare how they look different and the same. And more, and more and more. She never got the candy because she forgot all about it.

I can’t find the 4th year pictures at the moment.

Really, though, I think that March in Atlanta should be snow free.

Katie has been looking for her snow boots for the past hour. Of course, they were too small at Christmas, and we left them in CT. She doesn’t believe me.
