Swim team started in our neighborhood a couple weeks ago, and last week was our first meet.
This is Maggie’s third year on Swim Team, and this year, she’s moved up an age group, so she can do all 4 strokes in a meet. She swam 5 events this meet, including the 100IM, which had her doing 1 lap of each stroke in a single race. She LOVED being able to swim everything.

Her times aren’t what she’d like them to be (and neither, therefore, are the ribbons), but it was great to see that every time she picked her head out of the water, there was a huge smile across her face. She emailed her coaches last night asking for what she could/should swim in the afternoons so she can get stronger and faster. One emailed her back with a detailed list. I’m not so sure I could do everything on it, and I know that she’s already doing the same in the morning. More power to her!

Katie was just as happy with her 3 events. She is the rare child who loves doing backstroke and is pretty good at it. Most of the time, she does a great job of staying straight (another rarity in the 6 & under crowd), but at the meet, she was very concerned with where the other swimmers were, so there was a little veering.

All in all, the first meet was a success. And we won, which was nice. The girls are already looking forward to their next meet… and all the ribbons they’ll get to collect.
