Lisa is subbing for the week, so she asked me if I could come walk Derby when I have the chance. I didn’t really have a chance today, so I picked Derby up and brought him for a play date. Katie was thrilled to throw the ball in the backyard, and we took a short walk, too. She loved running down the street with him and being so happy together.
On the way home from our walk, Derby became increasingly interested in the leaves and fire hydrants along the way. He was sniffing, and when he is sniffing, he is essentially an unmoveable object. Katie, of course, learned this when they were happily running along and Derby stopped short at an interesting smell. Katie, wearing patent leather shoes and running in the leaves that had fallen, caught enough air to turn completely around and fall facing Derby. She spent a couple seconds trying to figure out what the heck had happened before realizing it didn’t matter at all because it hurt all over. Luckily, there was no blood, so she will live to see another day.
The remaining time of Derby’s play date will be spent with Katie cuddling with him or largely ignoring him.
