We took a quick trip to Tybee Island this past weekend.  Objectively, the weather was pretty lousy for a beach trip–especially for a quickie like ours.  It was overcast for most of the time and it rained twice on Saturday while we were there.  For us, though, it was perfect. The overcast skies kept it a little cooler than it would have been without the cloud cover, and the rain gave us an easy excuse to get the girls off the beach when we needed a break.  As an added bonus, I think it kept the crowds a little smaller than they normally would have been.

Maggie learned to ride waves and dive through them. She LOVED it.  She dove and rode and swam and let herself be pulled under by the waves so happily and so freely that I was very thankful that the water is so much colder when we go to Hilton Head in the spring. If it weren’t, I don’t know that I’d make it through a week at the beach by myself.

Katie was a little less sure about the water. She loved the waves, she loved swimming. Eventually, she loved going out into the water with me and feeling herself go up and over the waves. She even enjoyed the splashing a little bit. She did not however, enjoy getting salt water in her eyes.  Every time her face got wet, she clamped her eyes shut and held them that way until she was able to get back to the towel to wipe her face off.

All in all, it was a fun trip. Very short, but pretty sweet, too.
