Maggie just got caught in her first lie. There have been others, I am sure, and even other times that I have known she was lying but couldn’t completely prove it. But tonight was her first time lying and getting caught red-handed.
We talked about it for a while, and I stressed that no matter what she has done that she is afraid of getting in trouble for, she will always get into more trouble for lying about it. A little while later, I had her tell Stagg that she lied, and he went through the whole thing about lying being wrong and she shouldn’t do it.
We were all busy agreeing that the truth is the best policy and lying is wrong when Katie came running up to us. “Lions bad! Lions say ROOOOOAAAAAAR!!!” It really knocked any sense of solemnetude out of the moment… especially when both Stagg and I had to duck and cover because we were laughing at Katie’s impromptu speech.
