Saturday afternoon had me making yet another trip to the Urgent Care clinic. This time, my eye was fine and Katie was the one crying in her carseat. We weren’t really sure what had happened — Stagg was with her when she started crying, but didn’t see anything that looked like it would have hurt her or caused the tears.
That she could have had Nursemaid’s Elbow crossed both out minds, but since Katie kept holding her wrist instead of her elbow, we didn’t think it was likely. And, when we were able to get anything out of her, she said that November bit her. I did one final test before taking the trip to the clinic: I handed her a frozen Thin Mint. Instead of eating it, she stuck it on her wrist because the cold felt good. If that isn’t a sign of a really miserable kid, I don’t know what is.
At the clinic, the doctor took one look at her and knew it was nursemaid’s elbow pretty much immediately. The great thing about nursemaid’s elbow is that it is a quick and easy fix and once it is better, there is just no more pain. I walked in with a child who could do nothing but cry, whimper and hold her right arm still and left with one who giggled and said thank you to every one we passed while waving her right arm (which was holding the celebratory ice pop).
